Our Home: We moved into our "fixer-upper" June 2009...and have been fixing ever since. We actually started out in an old horse shed. No kidding! After graduating from college, Heath was finishing up his student-teaching and we had to stay put for a bit. No lease, low monthly payments, all utilities paid, and a window with a country view? The price was right! The owner had fixed up his old horse barn and converted it to small apartments. From there we moved to a small duplex for a semester, found out we were expecting our first child, and started house hunting. If you really want to see what kind of a mess we got ourselves into...you'll have to check the archives. Pictures are worth a thousand words!
How We Met: How many women will tell you they really went to college to find a "guy"? A few of us, if we're honest. :) After meeting Heath at a bible study during the first week at college, I confessed to him I "just wanted to get married and start a family". How ironic that he would be the one and that family would start as soon as it did?
Careers/Education: Heath is currently in his third year of teaching as a 6th grade Science and Language Arts teacher. He'll be the first to tell you that although middle schoolers come complete with attitudes, acne, and anger - they are also the most needy for mentors and people who care. He loves his 6th graders! Not only does he see all the young boys in 6th grade, but he has the opportunity to coach them as 7th graders during football season. Right now, Heath is working on a Masters degree as well as getting a crash course in Fatherhood. Stephanie: Heath and I both went to Central College where I majored in English, German, and Marketing. I studied abroad in Germany and Austria - Heath even visited me abroad! From there, I graduated and found myself working as a graphic designer and photographer. This last winter (2009), I started my newest job as a stay-at-home-mom which I find more challenging than any other job I've ever had - but also the most rewarding. Apart from staying busy as a mom and keeping up with laundry, I still do some at-home work designing wedding albums.
| What a big baby. :) |
Pets: Sam is our one and only pet (apart from the mice who get chased out of the fields every fall and try to move in). Not more than two months after we were married - we made the biggest "purchase" ever by picking up Sam. It was my birthday gift...one we seriously considered returning after the first few nights. Believe it or not? Having our daughter was no where near as traumatic a process as bringing our golden retriever puppy home!
Fight Most About: Dishes. You heard me - dishes. I grew up stacking in the sink, Heath grew up stacking in the dishwasher. It kind of works like this: (Heath) "Honey, I know you worked hard today...but do you think you could keep up with the dishes?" (Me) "I hate dishes". Yeah - like that. :S
Fantasy Buy: 52" plasma TV with 24/7 football on every channel for Heath and an on-call laundry washing, dish drying, floor scrubbing, diaper changing fairy god-mother!
Interests/Hobbies: We both love the outdoors and try to get out as much as we can. Biking, reading, sports, but definitely not fixing up old houses anymore...
Weeknights: I will ashamedly admit that Heath and I are movie junkies. One of our favorite things to do (especially as the weather gets colder) is to watch our favorite shows. Netflix is Heath's favorite "channel". They have all our favorite shows like Home Improvement, Andy Griffith, Deadliest Catch and tons of new movies that we have yet to discover! Newest favorite? "Forever Strong". A must-see!
Weekends: I have to clarify here: there are the things we have to do and dislike on the weekends like the endless construction/cleaning up of our house and the things we love to do like biking on autumn days with our daughter and garage-saling (me!).
